Croton oil (Merck) was applied to the backs of fifteen healthy adult male rabbits, which were epilated by means of barium sulphide. One application of the oil was enough to cause an eczematous focus within a few days. When the eczematous condition had occurred, blood was taken out of the animals every other day and the cholesterin content was measured by Bloor's method for a fortnight. The results were as follows: 1) The cholesterin content in the blood of untreated healthy rabbits, when 4,0cc. of the blood was taken out every other day for eight days in succession, remained unchanged. 2) The cholesterin content in the blood of the rabbits with an eczematous focus on their backs decreased remarkably for some days approximately on the 3rd to the 7th day after the application, and increased more or less on the 11th to the 15th day. 3) Such a regular change of the cholesterin content in the blood is observable only in experimental cases. The variety and irregularity of the results obtained in the human eczematous skin cases, is not to be wondered at, as the aetiology and the course may never be the same and therefore the regular results obtained with animals in experiments may never be seen.
