The author determined the chlorine content of the skin and of the blood of rabbits at the stage of intoxication and when the hair was falling out owing to injections of thallium acetate solution. At the same time the kidneys were excised from the intoxicated rabbits and examined histologically under the microscope. Between the chlorine content and the pathological processes in the kidneys the following connections were found: 1) The chlorine content of both the skin and the blood was increased in both cases. The increase was, however, greater at the stage of intoxication than an that when the hair was falling out. At the stage of intoxication the increase of the chlorine content was more marked in the skin than in the blood. This fact is probably due to the function of regulating the chlorine content of the body performed by the skin. 2) Pathological findings were noticed mostly in the wounded urinary tubules of the kidney, the place where the chlorine is regarded as being excreted. This must naturally result in an increase of the chlorine content of the skin and the blood. 3) There was no trace of any causal relationship between the chlorine content and the water content of the skin.
