Chip equalizer using tap selection algorithm for Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) (衛星通信)

Korean Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (S-DMB) service adopts ITU-R B.O. 1130-4 Digital System E standard. The S-DMB system is based on DS-CDM-QPSK technique, and broadcasts audio and video contents to the mobile and portable terminals via the geostationary satellite and terrestrial gap-fillers. The current S-DMB system can not provide full loading services because the multiple access or multi-channel interference (MCI) is increased due to the loss of the orthogonality between the signature waveforms in multi-path fading channels. This paper presents a new chip equalizer using tap selection algorithm in order to cancel the MCI and increase the system capacity. Our simulation results show that the proposed equalizer outperforms the conventional chip equalizer and rake receiver in multi-path fading channels.
