Tissue Compatibility of Aneurysm Clip with Scaled Blade Made by Different Methods of Surface Scaling Technique : in-vivo and in-vitro Experimental Studies

Aneurysm clip with scaled blade appears useful in microsurgical aneurysm operation through narrow apertures where depth of clip placement is uncertain. We examined two types of clips with scale made by different methods of blade surface scaling, metal copy (matacopy) and diamond cut (DC), to assure biological response to and tissue compatibility of scaled blade in vivo. Commercially available Sugita clip, made by elgiloy, with or without scales, were implanted into the rat abdominal cavity or were immersed in saline stored in 37℃. After 3 months of implantation or incubation clips were examined by scanning electromicroscopy. Metacopy showed excellent tissue compatibility, where there was no additional reaction to blade. DC showed fair tissue compatibility, as there seemed some exaggerated fibrous reaction. Metacopy is tissue compatible method for clip blade surface scaling.
