TEM Observations of the Grain Boundaries in a Semiconducting Barium Titanate Thick Film

Transmission electron microscope observations of the grain boundary areas were made on semiconducting barium titanate thick film which had shown a typical PTC (positive temperature coefficient of resistivity) effect. The 180°domains across the grain boundary could not be observed, while the possibility of the existence of 90°domains was suggested. The fact that intergranular phases were unobservable indicated no significant role of the second phase in a basic PTC effect.
