The Thickness-Dependence of Dielectric and Physical Properties of BaTiO_3 Ceramic Thick Films

Ceramic films of BaTiO_3 differ from bulk specimens in dielectric and other physical properties. In BaTiO_3. films produced by a modified doctor blade method, the c-axis orientation along the direction perpendicular to the film surface was observed and the degree of orientation increased with decrease in film thickness. Elongation of c-axis was also observed in the films. The thickness dependence of the dielectric constant of the films was successfully estimated using the Lichtenecker-Rother equation. Further, an equation was presented to describe the effects of grain arrangement, crystal axis orientation, and porosity on a dielectric constant at room temperature.
