Frequency Stabilization of Laser Diodes to the Cs-D_2 Line with the Zeeman Modulation Method

The frequencies of AlGaAs laser diodes were stabilized to the F=4→F'=5 component of Cs-D_2 line with the Zeeman modulation method, in which the laser frequency remains unmodulated. Allan variance measurements were made on the beat note between two laser diodes thus stabilized and a frequency stability of 2.4×10^<-10> was obtained at an averaging time of 1s. By changing the dc magnetic field applied to the Cs cell, the frequency of the laser diodes could be tuned almost linearly in the range of -180 MHz to 180 MHz.
