YBa_2Cu_3O_7 Growth on Metal Substrates with SrTiO_3 Buffer Layer by Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition

We prepared oxide superconducting YBa_3Cu_3O_<7-x> thin films on Hastelloy substrates with a SrTiO_3 buffer layer by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using a single source of tetrahydrofuran soltution. To clarify the cause of poor superconducting properties, the cross section of YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-x>/SrTiO_3/Hastelloy was examined by TBM. The YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-x> and SrTiO_3 layers grew perpendicular to the Haste1loy surface, which was columnar. The orientation of the YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-x> layer seems to depend on that of the SrTiO_3 layer. As a result, it is considered that the deposition of a good single-crystalline buffer layer on Hastelloy is the most important factor for obtaining excellent YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-x> films.
