Brassinolide stimulated an increase in fresh weight of segments of hypocotyls of etiolated squash (Cucurbita maxima Duch. cv. Houkou-Aokawaamaguri). Brassinolide-treated segments contained higher levels of IAA than water-treated segments and also showed a tendency towards decreased levels of ABA. However, treatment with brassinolide did not have much effect on the production of ethylene.
