Iodole-3-acetic acid (IAA) induced the accumulation of ^<14>C-hydroxyproline in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-and Golgi-rich fraction; especially in the ER fraction. It inhibited the incorporation of hydroxyproline in the cell wall fraction. In addition, IAA had no effect on the ratio of hydroxyproline to proline in each fraction. The decrease in hydroxyproline content per section treated with IAA was very little. Based on these results we propose that IAA inhibits the transport of hydroxyproline-protein in the cell wall, but the resulting decrease in hydroxyproline-protein rigidly bound to the cell wall may not be the main factor that induces cell elongation.
