2,3-Dideoxy-2,3-epithio-β-D-allofuranose (3c) and 2,3-dideoxy-2,3-epithio-α-D-mannofuranose (4c) were obtained, respectively, by the hydrolyses of methyl 2,3-dideoxy-2,3-epithio-α-D-allopyranoside (1a) and methyl 2,3-dideoxy-2,3-epithio-α-D-mannopyranoside (2a) with Amberlite CG-120 (H^+) in H_2O. The structures of these reducing sugars were confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
