Isolation and Characterization of a Bacterial Dipeptidyl Carboxypeptidase Inhibitor from Bacillus subtilis 3-16-20

A bacterial dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase inhibitor was isolated from the culture broth of a bacterium identified as Bacillus subtilis. The inhibitor was purified 33-fold from the culture supernatant of B. subtilis 3-16-20 strain by Q-, and S-Sepharose fast flow, C_<18> column chromatography, ethanol treatment, and ODS column chromatography. The purified inhibitor has an amino acids sequence of glycyl-prolyl-phenylalanyl-prolyl-isoleucine. IC_<50> values of the inhibitor were 177 μM (rabbit lund ACE) and 35 μM (bacterial DCP).
