A significant release of PGE_1 and PGF_<2α> from the ischemic area of the myocardium 15 min after the ligation of LAD was demonstrated. The coronary venous blood flow in the ischemic area significantly decreased 5 min and significantly increased 15 min after ligation. In the indomethacin pretreated group. there was no release of PGE_1 and PGF_<2α>; the coronary venous blood flow decreased 5 min and no increase was found 15 min after ligation. A significant release of lactate after ligation was demonstrated in both of the IND and non-IND groups. However, the release ratio was significantly greater in the IND group than in the non-IND group. Thus, it is suggested that prostaglandins (especially PGE_1 ) play an important role in the regulation of coronary blood flow in the ischemic myocardium and in myocardial metabolism at an early stage of acute myocardial infarction.
