Possible Coexistence of Quadrupolar and Magnetic Ordering in Ce_<0.7>Pr_<0.3>B_6(Condensed Matter : Electronic Structure, Electrical, Magnetic and Optical Properties)

We have investigated the physical properties of Ce_<0.7>Pr_<0.3>B_6 in order to clarify the doping effect on the multipolar interactions in CeB_6 and PrB_6. As a result of the suppression of the antiferro-quadrupolar ordering temperature T_Q and the enhancement of T_N by Pr doping, six long-range ordered (LRO) phases appear. T_Q exhibits a smooth increase with increasing magnetic field as in CeB_6. At a high magnetic field, above〜10T, only phase II exists. As for the three LRO phases below〜10T and below T_Q, there exists a possibility of incommensurate quadrupolar and magnetic ordering. A new question of how the quadrupolar ordering is compatible with the magnetic ordering appears in the present study. The coexistence of the magnetic and quadrupolar orderings in Ce_<0.7>Pr_<0.3>B_6 indicates that the strong Ce-Pr interaction is different from the weak Ce-Nd interaction in Ce_xNd_<1-x>B_6.
