Thermal Conductivity of La_<2-x-y>Nd_ySr_xCuO_4

We have measured the thernaa[ condvrctivity n of L212 . .7?.Sr.CuO) (7? ::: Nd, Sm, Err,Gd) and fovxnd that it shows the enharacenaent below the tratnsition terrnperature T,3) frorn theLTOI (low-teunperature orthorhornbic-l) to LTT (low-temperature tetragonal) (or LTO2 (lowtemperature orthorhotnbic-2)) phase and the unagnitude of' the enhancement strongly dependson x and y. We propose that the characteristic enlaancertaent of tc below T.3) reflects the natttreof the strttctvrre below Tac. From the resttlts that in L2L1.875 .Nd.Sro.uzsCuO.?, the LTT (orLTO2) phase appears at y >1/8, we propose tlae pair svrbstitution of Sr" and Nd" tons wherethe loss of the strain energy is sznaller and the local LTT (or LTO2) distortion is rnore largelyenhanced than in the case of the independent substittrtion. We show that various characteristicproperties associated with the LTT (or LTO2) transition could be explained naturally frorn tlaestand point that the local lattice distortion induced by the svrbstitvrted ton plays an importantrole.
