GLANDULAR CELL PROPERTIES OF CELL LINE (HKUS) DERIVED FROM SMALL CELL NON-KERATINIZING SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA OF THE UTERINE CERVIX

子宮頚部偏平上皮癌細胞株は多数樹立されているが, 角化型扇平上皮癌, 大細胞非角化型扇平上皮癌由来の細胞株がほとんどで, 小細胞非角化型扇平上皮癌(K)細胞株の樹立の報告はほとんどない. HKUS株は70歳婦人の子宮頚癌(K)を培養して樹立した細胞株である. 個々の細胞は紡錘形類円形で上皮系細胞配列をなす. また接触阻止が見られず容易に多層性増殖する. 増殖は速く樹立後4年で250回以上継代した. 染色体数のモードは二倍体領域に見られ, stem cellの染色体は45, X, -Xの構造異常を示す. HKUS株は腺癌の性質を有し, ヌードマウスの皮下に細胞を移植すると腺癌を形成する. また少数ではあるが扇平上皮癌の性質を持つHKUS細胞もある. 新たに樹立したHKUS株は腺癌と偏平上皮癌の両方に分化する能力を持つ幼若な癌細胞株と考えられる.
