Linear stability of B!nard-Marangoni convection in txvo-layer systern is analyzed theoretically.Special attention is paid to the effect of the Blot nuttaber in lcoth rigid bound?xries and thethickness of the upper gas layer on the critical IVIarttngoni nuuaaber and the critical xvatvenumber.The defornaation of interface is asstmmed to Ice neglected for lineatrizing the basic equation to thequiescent state. On tlae asstrrnption of the exch;rnge of st?rbilities, the eigenvalue prolcletaa f'orthe neutral lVIarangoni nunaber is derived, the analytical expression of the netrtral ctnrve and thelinear trades are presetated and the condition f'or tlae long-xvave instability is discussed based onthe structtrre of' the rnode.
