Systematic Study of Isotope Shifts and Hyperfine Structures in Yb I by Atomic-Beam Laser Spectroscopy

Isotope shifts of 9 transitions from the ground and metastable states in Yb l weremeasured for 7 stable isotopes with A = 168-[76 by means of atomic-beam laser spectroscopy. Hyperfine constants A and B of 12 levels for "'Yb and "'Yb were deter-mined. Reliable values of nuclear parameters 2 were obtained and changes in meansquare nuclear charge radii 6<,r') were deduced using both the two-parameter modeland the numerical calculation. Deformations for Yb stable isotopes were discussed.Hyperfine constants A and B were analyzed with the effective operator procedure andthe single-electron hyperfine parameters of 6.5 and 6d electrons were derived for theYb I 4 f"6s6d configuration. For the 'D. and 'D. states of 4 f"6s6d, J and termdependences of isotope shifts were obtained and the parameters of the crossed-second-order effect were derived to be z.,/1=18(6)MHz/fm' and g.(6s,6d)/)1 120(60) MHz / fm'.[isotopenuclear ll parameter, crossed-second- [l orderlshuft, hyperfine structure, atomic-beam Baser spectroscopy,2 and l><.r'), single-electron hyperfine parametereffect
