High-resolution laser spectroscopy in Sill I has been perfortaaed ])}/ tusing a ttnnable diode lasertogether with a higl'xly collitnatted atotmic bearaa. Hyperfine strtrcttnres and isotope shifts of Sillisotopes have been naeasvrred for f'otrr trarasitions in the xvavelength region of 636 -687 nrn; thelargest isotope sluift has been obserxzed. Hyperfine constants A and B of ""8211 and "'Sun laavebeen detertaained f'or six levels. B)' trsirng tlae ptrrest 8' - sp trarasition xvith tlae lar'gest isotopeshift, IILICI(2211 parataaeters A, chatages in rnean-sqtrare nuclear charge radii 6(.r'), and nucleardef'ornasrtion parauneters 6/,/3') laave been derived azud discussed.
