Charge Transfer Spectra of Divalent Transition Metal Ions in LiCl and LiBr

Optical absorption spectra of LiCl and Liar single crystals containing Cu",Ni",Co",Fe"or Mn" havebeenstudiedintherangeof20.0to52.0kcm-'.Several absorption bands of medium intensity are observed and found to betemperature insensitive. These absorption bands are assigned to the electrontransfer transitions from halogen tons to the central metal ions in MCX6 cow-plexes. Splitting of the absorption bands is observed in LiBr, which is interpretedas caused by the spin-orbit interaction in Br- ions.
