The reflection spectra of MgCl. single crystals having a uniaxial layer structureare studied with p-polarized ligFtt obliquely incident upon the cleavage surfaces.From the comparison between tire experimental facts obtained from the reflectionspectra and the electronic band structure calculated theoretically, it is confirmedthat the top of the valence band belongs to T3 and 21 Fj state lies just below this.
