The new thought that has been developed for explaining the incommensuratetransitions in K.SeO. and NaNO. is applied to ammonium Roche]Je salt, al-though there are several points of difference between ammonium Rochelle saltand the former two. As the directions of incommensurate modulation, all thex, y and z axes are taken into account. The thermodynamic potential function islo?icallv determined. Possible ferroics are deduced, which include the real com-mensurate one. Some of them arc found to be incommensurate and yet ferro-electric. The conditions determining which of the possible ferroics the prototypicphase should change to by a first order transition are found out.
