Theoretical Explanations of the Nonvarying and the Decreasing of │P_s│with Cooling from T_c as Observed in some Ferroelectrics

In several ferroelectrics of faintness index 2 making a frst order transition, it was observed that P* is T ind'ependent and that cf'* < ep.t at T. (fer is short for "ferroic", and prt for "prototypic"). The present paper explains these facts theoretically, upon the usual simplest assumptions about the manners of T depend-ence of the coefficients in the free energy function. Two different theories are offered. In one of them, a dimensionless material constant r is defined using some coefficients in the free energy function. The following are found. If r ~ I , P* is almost T independent, and cf"<ep.t at T.. If r and < 1, IP*1 increases with cooling from T.. If r ~ and > l, IP.1 decreases. In the two latter cases, ef'*> or < cp.t at T. ; either is possible. There exist theories by other authors, on which criticism is offered.
