Specific Heat Study of Non-Fermi Liquid Behavior in CeNi2Ge2:Anomalous Peak in Quasi-Particle Density-of-States

To investigate tlae non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior in a nonalloyed systern CeNi3Gez, we havemeasttred the teraaperattrre and field dependences of the specific heat C on a CeNixGex singlecrystal. The distinctive temperature dependence of CAT (x a - f3'IT) is destroyed in almostthe saune manner for both field directions of 713/c-axis and U7<r-axis. The overall behavior ofCAT, B) and the low-temperattrre upttrrn in X('V') can be reprodtrced, asstrming an anomalouspeak of the quasi-particle-band density-of-states (DOS) at the Fertni energy possessing ,j energydependence. Absence of residual entropy around T : O K in B x O T has been confirmed by theunagnetocaloric effect measurements, which are consistent with the present model. The presentmodel can also be applied to the NFL behavior in C(2CL15.9AUO.1 ttsing a In(e)-dependent peakin the DOS. Possible origins of the peak in the DOS are disctrssed.
