On superconducting Double transition in a Heavy Fermion Material UPt_3

In order to explain phase diagrams independent of field-orientation, which is nowevident in UPt., we present a scenario based on a superconducting (SC) class belong-ing to the one-dimensional representation (10-REP) with odd-parity. The preexistingantiferromagnetic order (AF) lifts the spin space degeneracy of the pairing functionto split T., which is contrasted with the orbital degeneracy lifting mechanism in theprevious 2D-REP scenario. A non-trivial coupling of the two orderings, SC and AF isderived and a GL theory is developed to examine the successive phase transitions. Wecalculate several quantities, including the upper and lower critical fields, specific heatjumps and derive the phase diagrams under applied fields. It is demonstrated that thepresent 10-REP scenario is more consistent with varjous experiments on UPt, thanthe previous 2D-REP one. We emphasize that the 10-REP scenario is the only choiceremained within the symmetry breaking framework, xvhich is able to consistently ex-plain the experiments.
