Identification of Nonunitary Triplet Pairing in a Heavy Fermion Superconductor UPt_3

A NIVIR experiment recently done on a heavy Ferunion strpercondtrctor UPt3 is interpreted internas of a nonunitary spin-triplet pairing state which XX'(II! hax-e been advocating. The proposedstate stuccessftrlly explains variotrs ?'tspects of the seeuningly couaaplicated Knight shift behaviorsprobed for utaa.jor orientations, incltrding a reuaaarkable d-vector rotation trnder weak fields. This?aaakes UPt3 the first exanaple of' a charged zaaany-body systeraa fortaaing a spin-triplet odd-paritypairing at low ternperattrres, xvhich demonstrates definitively that the ptutative spin-orbit coupling in UPt3 is w'eak.
