Radial Transport Induced by Rotating RF Fields and Breakdown of Intrinsic Ambipolarity in a Magnetic Mirror

Radial transport induced by rotating RF fields in a magnetic mirror is studied. TheRF frequency used is in the Jon cyclotron range of frequency and is comparable to theelectron bounce frequency. The radial particle fluxes for ions and electrons are ob-tained by use of the gyrokinetic equation. With a positive azimuthal mode number ofthe RE field, the radial particle flux is outward for Maxwellian ions and inward forMaxwellian electrons. This shows that the intrinsic ambipolarity is broken in this RF-induced transport.
