Quantum Size Effect on the Excitation Energy and the Oscillator Strength of PbI_2 Clusters in Zeolite

Absorption spectra are reported for Pbl. clusters incorporated into zeolite FAUwith various loading densities. There appear many absorption bautds correspondingto one to five molecular clusters. With decreasing the cluster size, the spectra show theremarkable blue shift in qualitative agreement with the quantum confinement of theelectron and the hole. The smaller clusters indicate the strong absorption in spite ofthe decrease in the molecular number. This result is ascribed to the quantum sizeeffect on the exciton oscillator strength.Iquantum size effect, quantum confrnement, exciton, oscillator strength, cluster, ll zeolitel
