Electronic States of SnI_4 Single Crystals and Its Clusters Inserted in the Molecular Vessels of Cyclodextrins

• Frouaa the reflection spectra of 81114 single crystal, the exciton absorption band has been observedat peak energies, 3.l3eV (l.6K) and 3.O7eV (room teunperatttre). The binding energy of theexciton is estirnated to be 350tneV (l.6K) asstutaaing the hydrogen-like series for the excitonenergy levels. The novel idea of trsing a cyclodextrin naolectrle as a size-controlling vessel tomake a 81114 cltrster is proposed. The reflection spectra of Snl,j clvrsters inserted in cx-, f3- and'y-cyclodextrins were uneasured. The first exciton absorption peak of the cltrsters shifts to thehigher energy by nearly O.3eV (1.6K) and O.4eV (rootaa temperatture) conapared xvith th?rt oftlae single crystals. The shift is dtre to the qtranttrm size effect.
