Development of a New Relaxational Process Having Shortened Relaxation Time and Phase Transition in KOH-Doped Ice Single Crystal

Single crystals of KOH-doped ice were grown by a modified Bridgemann methodand the dielectric relaxation spectrum was measured in the wide temperature range,from near the melting point to about 65 K in order to elucidate the origin of acceleralion of the dielectric relaxation by KOH-doping. It was found that the new relaxa-tional process, in which the dielectric relaxation is greatly accelerated appears nearthe eutectic point (108 K) and it follows the Arrhenius relation below about 90 K. Thephase transition at 72 K reported on the polycrystalline KOH-doped ice was observedon a 2.2 ppm KOH-doped single crystal for the first time.
