[11 order to study conformationau change through a phase transition, the bulksample of z-hexatriacontane (#-C36H7.) was investigated by the X-ray diffractionmethod during crystallization in a temperature gradient. In the first stage ofcrystallization, the monoclinic rotator phase arises from a melt state, whosecrystalline constants are a=4.98A, b=8.62A, c=48.10A, /?=107.0'. By thesecond transition from the rotator phase, the monoclinic crystal is formed, whoseunit cell dimensions are a=7.76A, b=4.90A, c=48.27A, /?=1O6.0'. The bothcrystalline structures show that the chain axes are tilted from the layer plane.The second transition is performed by the change in the tilt direction of themolecules and by the anisotropic contraction of the intermolecular distances.
