Electronic Properties of Liquid S-Te Mixtures

The electrical conductivity o, thermopower Q, magnetic susceptibility z and Hallcoefficient 7?. were measured for liquid S-Te mixtures. The temperature dependenceof o is characterized by the semiconducting regions I and II, and the metallic region.Present analysis indicates that?the temperature dependence of Q and 7 corresponds tothe characteristic of o. In the semiconducting regions, the behaviour of o, Q and 7can be explained by taking into account two activation processes. It is found that thesemiconductor to metal transition occurs with further increase of temperature. In themetallic region, the density of states at the Fermi level is obtained from the correla-lion between 7 and o."' Liquid Te-rich mixtures have a positive thermopower and anegative Hall coefficient. These experimental results suggest that liquid Te-rich mixtures are a typical system with a shallow pseudogap.
