Magnetic Susceptibilities of Transition Metal Solutes in Liquid In_2 Te_3 and InTe_4 Alloys

The enhancement of the susceptibilities z. of liquid In.Te, Into. and Te caused byaddition of Cr, Mn and Fe solutes decreases gradually with increasing temperature.This suggests that Cr, Mn and Fe ions are in a magnetic state in these liquid solvents.Similarly, the d states of V, Co and Ni solutes become magrcetic in liquid lnTe. andIn.Te. alloys. The trend of 7.. versus transition metal solute exhibits a large peak atMn. The low density of states of a solvent at tlte Fermi Iex'el is reflected on largevalues of X. in these liquid solvents, compared wi1.h the values of z. in liquid metals.It is found that z.(Fe) >z.(Cr) and z.(Co) >X.(V) in these licjuid solvents. This relationship is attributed to a low density of conduction electrorts of a solvent.
