Raman scattering spectra of PI and v. vibrational modes of methane havebeen observed for CH. and CD. in solid Kr, a?td for Cl-I. in solid Xe. Finestructures due to the vibration-rotation states have been resolved in the spectrumof the v. mode. The observed fine structures in the spectruna of CH. in Kr areexamined to be in a good agreement with the theory of Kobashi, Kataoka andYamamoto. The prominent doublet structures in this spectrum are due to theS-branch (UJ=2) type transitions from the lowest rotatiortal state of the A-methane.
