Angular Correlation of Positron Annihilation Radiation from Single Crystals of Vanadium-Deuterium Alloys

The electronic structtn'e of V-D alloys was studied by the angular correlationmeasurements of positron annihilation photons using single crystals of VDg....,VD.... and VD..,.. Marked differences are observed in the correlation curvesof pure vanadium and V0..5. with the [1004, [1104 and [111] orientations; thecharacteristic fine structures of vanadium arising from the hole band structuresdisappear in vl)0.6s- The results are interpreted as evidences that deuteriumdonates its electron to the conduction band of vanadium and the hole band fillsgradually. The measurements on polycrystals of voo.51 0.6v and VH ..5. were alsomade to compare with the results of the single crystals.
