Atomic Short Range Order in Cu_3Mn Studied by TOF Neutron Diffraction

Diffuse scattering due to the atomic short range order in Cu-20 -28 at % Mnsingle crystals has been studied by the time of flight measurement of pulsedneutrons. The SRO parameters ct.j of the 25 % Mn alloy were obtained by analyz-ing the diffuse scattering intensity, and used for a computer simulation of theatomic configuration. The local atomic arrangements shc>w a preference forno manganese atom pairs as first neighbors and two manganese atom pairs assecond neighbors, which tends to satisfy the Ni.Mo-like structtu'e. The ratiosof pairwise interactions are evaluated and discussed briefly.
