Three-Dimensional Antiferromagnetic Transition of Brominated Fluoro-Aluminum Phthalocyanine Polymer

A bulk three-dimensional (3D) antiferromagnet of brominated fluoro-aluminum polymer phthalocyanine AlPcF-Br_<0.89> has been synthesized. A powder X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that the crystal structure has a large disorder along the polymer chain. The angular dependence of the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) line width indicates that the exchange interaction is three dimensional. A 3D-antiferromagnetic transition occurs at 100K, which is evidenced by an anomalous broadening of the EPR line width, a quenching of the EPR signal intensity and a maximized static susceptibility at this temperature. The susceptibility at 300K is compatible with the localized-spin picture. A detailed analysis of the EPR line width indicates that an unpaired spin is distributed over three Pc rings along the polymer chain.
