Ultrasonic Investigation of Double Ferromagnetism in Gd_<75>Y_<17.5>Sc_<7.5> Single Crystal Alloys

• Ultrasonic attenuation and sound velocity have been measured for a Gd,Y.. ,Sc,.,single crystal alloy under magnetic fields. Attenuation peak and velocity drop atT.=215 K display a large difference in magnitude when taken on cooling and onwarming. The results are interpreted by means of an antiphase domain ferrimagneticstructure. A novel attenuation peak and velocity anomaly appear in a Ferro I phasebetween T ,! = 188 K and T.. The mechanisms of these features and magnetic phasediagrams deduced from these measurements are discussed.
