Nonlinear short pulse propagations in birefringent optical fiber are studied. A new nonlinear evolution equation is presented, which is a hybrid of the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equation and the coupled derivative nonlinear Schrodinger equation. As a solution for the coupled hybrid nonlinear Schrodinger equation, solitary waves (pulsed electric fields) propagating at a constant speed are obtained.
