Free energy of electrons in metals having definite electron and spin-density distritutions is calculated in the Hartree-Fock approximation. By the perturbation calculation, the free energy is expanded as a power series of the deviation of the electron density from that in the non-polarized state and the spin density up to fourth powers. Coefficients in the expansion are calculated for an electron gas in the Hubbard approximation and for electrons in a single band model with only intra-atomic Coulomb interactions. From the result of the expansion, the wave vector dependent dielectric constant and magnetic susceptibility are calculated for an electron gas.
