Nonleptonic Hyperon Decays in the Covariant Chiral U(6)xotimeU(6) Scheme

Nonleptonic hyperon decays are examined as a further test of the covariant chiral U(6)xotimeU(6) scheme with SU(6)-representation mixing, which has been proposed in a previous paper. The main features of the results are as follows: (a) The |ΔI|=1/2 rule is derived both for S- and P-wave amplitudes. (b) Experimental S-wave amplitudes are fairly well reproduced. In particular (1) S(Σ_+^+)ap0 is obtained without the K^*-pole- or any other analogous ap-proximations, and (2), apart from certain mass-dependent factors (i.e. in the SU(3)-symmetry limit in a sense), the Lee-Sugawara relation holds for S-amplitudes. (c) As for the P-amplitudes, the scheme leads to no other definite conclusion than the above-mentioned |ΔI|=1/2 rule (nor to definite inconsistency with data).
