Problems of chiral symmetry breaking and vacuum structure in the Schwinger model are reinvestigated within the framework of canonical formalism in axial gauge. The Lorentz invariance of the theory is taken as a criterion of the arguments. It is pointed out that a conserved chiral charge cannot be redefined and the chiral symmetry breaking is dynamical. between the Schwinger model and the massless QCD in four dimensions does not follow.
