Covariant chiral U(6)⨂U(6) scheme proposed in a previous paper is improved in two points. First, the ordinary (1/2)^+ baryon octet is taken to be a suitable mixture of SU(6) 56 and 70 (even when it is at rest). The mixing rate is chosen so as to make the g_A/g_V ratio of neutron β-decay agree with the experimental value. Secondly, in place of the previous form of baryon currents, alternative covariant form is proposed. The new vector and axialvector baryon currents j_<μ^V,A> are closely connected with those of the algebra of currents in the following sense: For transitions between baryons both at rest, the effects of (j^A,j_<0^V>) and of (j_<0^V>, j_<0^A>/y) are equivalent to those of the U(6) and the chiral U(3)⨂U(3) generators, respectively. Here, y is an adjustable parameter giving a measure of relative strength of transitions between different parity baryons versus those between the same parity baryons. As for the 0^- and 1^± mesons, there is no room for SU(6) mixing in the present scheme. Baryons interact with pseudoscalar mesons through the four-dimensional divergence of the new j_<μ^A> multiplied by a constant factor g, which is adjusted so as to give a correct value for the NNπ coupling constant. With this revised scheme, the widths and decay branching ratios of baryon resonances are calculated and are compared with experiment. Particularly for the (3/2^+ ; 10) and (3/2^-;8) baryons, the results are surprisingly good.
