This paper describes a content-addressable and mask-programmable ROM (CMROM). Each cell of the CMROM consists of two MOS transistors, two bit lines and one word line. The cell can be read as a conventional ROM or as a content-addressable memory (CAM). Thus the CMROM can perform functions as a CAM and at the same time as a ROM. As a CAM certain bits can be masked out, i.e., not compared with the stored bits. The static operating characteristics of the memory are also analyzed in detail. The theoretical results have good coincidence with simulated results using the computer circuit analysis program HSPICE.
