Motions of cylindrically converging shock waves are simulated numerically. Spatially two-dimensional fluid dynamic equations, which contain the azimuthal angle θ as well as the radius r as independent variables, are solved. A cylindrical shock tube problem is examined. The shape of the converging shock wave is always stable and has a tendency to become circular. The flow behind the shock wave, however, is unstable. The instability growth rate of perturbation increases with wave length of the perturbation. The results of simulation are compared to those of experiment.
