TiO2/C Composite Microcoils and TiO2 Hollow Microcoils with High Photocatalytic Activities and Electromagnetic (EM) Wave Absorption Abilities

TiO2/C composite microcoils and TiO2 hollow microcoils were obtained by coating the surface of carbon microcoil (CMC) templates with TiO2 layers using chemical vapor deposition. Uniform TiO2 (anatase) layers were formed on the CMC templates by the vapor phase hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide at 300°C, followed by heat treatment in N2 or by calcination in air at 500–800°C. It was found that the TiO2/C composited microcoils had a good photocatalytic activity. It was also found that the TiO2 hollowed microcoils as well as the TiO2/C composite microcoils can effectively absorb the electromagnetic waves in the GHz region.
