Structural and Optical Properties of ZnMgO Films Grown by Metal Organic Decomposition

Zn1-xMgxO films were fabricated on glass substrates by metal organic decomposition (MOD) with Mg compositions $x$ up to 18 at. %. The composition $x$ of Zn1-xMgxO films could be controlled, depending on the Mg mole ratio in a solution. X-ray diffraction revealed that the obtained Zn1-xMgxO films are polycrystalline with a wurtzite structure. Optical measurements showed that a direct band transition is observed in all the films, and that the fundamental absorption edge varies continuously with composition. Strong near-band-edge emissions without any deep-level emissions were observed from the Zn1-xMgxO films at room temperature, suggesting the MOD is a promising method for growing Zn1-xMgxO films at a low cost.
