Optical Damage Threshold Due to Stimulated Brillouin Scattering Reflection with Multimode Optical Fiber

Solid stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) materials as an effective phase conjugator were investigated under stable operation for improving the beam quality of high-average-power lasers. A multimode fiber with a 200 μm core diameter was used with 65% SBS reflectivity and 0.25 mJ (17 kW) SBS threshold at 1064 nm wavelength. At high pump energies, it was found that the possible input energy was limited due to an SBS-reflected pulse with a fast rise time.
