Production Characteristics of Fullerenes by Means of the $\mbi{J}\times \mbi{B}$ Arc Discharge Method

Efficient production of fullerenes by the $\mbi{J}\times \mbi{B}$ arc discharge method is investigated. The collection rates of various fullerenes (C60, C70, C76, C78 and C84) for many experimental parameters such as magnetic field, discharge current, He pressure and gap distance are measured, and optimum yields of these fullerenes are obtained at the discharge current of 120 A and He pressure of 40 kPa by the $\mbi{J}\times \mbi{B}$ arc discharge method using 8 mm$\phi$ carbon rods. By applying the magnetic field, production rates of fullerenes are considerably increased.
