• γ-Guanidino-β-hydroxypropane sulfonic acid C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>11</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>N<SUB>3</SUB>S crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2<SUB>1</SUB>/c, with four formula units in a unit cell of dimensions, <I>a</I>=7.44, <I>b</I>=9.89, <I>c</I>=11.11 Å and β=97.75°. The crystal structure was determined by the heavy atom method and refined by block-diagonal least-squares to an <I>R</I>-value of 0.12 using intensity data collected photographically. The molecule takes the zwitterionic form, (NH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>+</SUP>CNH-CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH(OH)CH<SUB>2</SUB>SO<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>−</SUP>. The skeletal conformation of the molecule is planar <I>trans</I> zigzag. The molecules are held together in the crystal by a three-dimensional network of NH···O and OH···O hydrogen bonds.
